Practice
Do you study a foreign language: take a course or learn on your own, or maybe you take lessons with a tutor? It doesn't matter... All lessons are based on the principle of learning grammar rules and enriching your vocabulary. But how can you gain confidence when speaking with a native speaker? If you attend a language course, you have the opportunity to practise what you have learnt with your classmates. But over time you get used to it and get to know each other better, which hinders the development of communication skills.
If you work on your own or with a tutor, you have little or no practice in speaking. When you encounter different people in real life, you cannot anticipate the interlocutor's reaction. This problem can be solved by attending a conversation club. After all, people with different accents, knowledge and peculiarities come here. At the meeting you overcome the "language barrier" in a less stressful environment.
Skills training
The main purpose of the club is to get you talking. It is difficult to keep silent at a meeting. In live conversation, you build up your vocabulary effortlessly. You practise all the knowledge you have learnt so far. When you talk, you construct sentences on a given topic, not just choose the right option in an exercise.
Language barrier
All visitors to the conversation club come with a desire to overcome the language barrier. In a circle of like-minded people it is easier to fight stress and insecurity. You compare your knowledge with the knowledge and abilities of other participants. This is a great motivation!
Feedback
As a rule, any conversation club is led by a native speaker or professional teacher. It is a great opportunity for participants to ask questions or resolve difficult issues. But students of language courses will also benefit. The presenter will correct your speech and point out mistakes. Your teacher may have overlooked or missed something in the learning process.
Discussion
The conversation club is attended by many different people. There is no clear list of participants. Each new meeting is an exchange of opinions and views on different topics with people you don't know. In this way you broaden your horizons. By the way, for those who are preparing for a language exam, conversation club is another way to practise your ability to find convincing arguments and debate with the examiner.
Topics
In a course you follow a specially designed programme based on textbooks. The teacher or tutor's task is to give you the basics of grammar and familiarise you with the main topics. For conversation club meetings, the facilitator chooses interesting topics and tries to avoid trivial ones that you have learnt from textbooks. Often we discuss real life, traditions and customs of the country whose language we are learning.
Meeting of like-minded people
The conversation club is an opportunity to make new acquaintances and find friends. Everyone who attends the meetings is united by the desire to practise the language and learn more. You have a common theme, which means you have something to discuss. This can be the first step towards friendship.
Useful leisure time
A conversation club is a meeting with interesting people and sharing your knowledge and hobbies with club members. In a pleasant atmosphere you discuss pressing issues, problems that concern everyone. If you want, it is a club of interest, where participants exchange opinions and you can hear a lot of interesting thoughts that would not have occurred to you.
Additional knowledge
At the meetings we do not study grammar rules, we do not practise writing and reading. But the facilitator will correct your speech mistakes and help you overcome the stress of communication. You will be able to consolidate your previous knowledge, as well as enrich your vocabulary.
10. No homework
You don't need to prepare for a meeting. You are there to talk and discuss. You only need to learn or recall a few useful words if the topic of the meeting has been given. A conversation club is improvisation, just like any situation in real life.
Success on this challenging journey and we invite you to join our Litera Conversation Club.
