Do you want to give a souvenir that is characteristic of Poland and has a local flavour?
Litera Centre has prepared the top 10 souvenirs from Poland. Take it to heart!
Amber
Marvellous gifts from the shores of the Baltic Sea will not leave anyone indifferent. Polish jewellers make jewellery from amber - rings, earrings, beads, as well as interior items and fantastic paintings and icons.
Boleslav ceramics
Openwork patterns on mugs, plates, jugs and vases will decorate any kitchen and dining room. Almost every major city in Poland has its own brand shops. Here you will find a large selection of ceramics from Bolesławiec. They will fill any flat with cosiness and elegance. However, the price of these ceramics is high, as they are hand-painted.
Sweets
Polish confectioners offer treats to suit all tastes, but the popular Krowka sweets are worth a look. They are sold by weight and in beautiful gift boxes. Why do we advise you to buy this treat for your relatives? Krowka sweets have been produced since 1921 and are a trademark of Poland. For those with a sweet tooth, bring a box of Ptasie Mleczko (Bird's Milk) sweets from the Wedel confectionery factory. Only butter is used in the "Bird's Milk" recipe! We also recommend the wonderful Polish chocolate from the Wawel confectionery company and the famous gingerbread from the city of Toruń, where Nicolaus Copernicus lived. The latter are baked in the form of various figures and symbols.
Alcohol
Polish spirits are deservedly internationally respected. The most famous brand of vodka - Zubrowka (Żubrówka). This drink is made on the basis of fragrant bison herb that grows in Belovezhskaya Pushcha. Gdańsk anise vodka "GoldWasser" can also serve as an original gift. At the bottom of each bottle of Goldenwasser you will find flakes of real gold of 22 carats. Another alcoholic drink - śliwowica - has an interesting flavour. Poles call it plum brandy. In addition to the brands listed above, you will find a large selection of quality Polish nalewkas in Polish shops.
Salt souvenirs
In Poland, a pinch of salt used to cost a fortune. Nowadays, you can buy a bag of salt for a few zlotys. The best place to buy this souvenir is near Krakow, in a place called Wieliczka. It is there that the most famous salt mines of Poland are located. Here you can go down into the mine, learn the history of salt mining and, of course, buy incredible salt souvenirs.
Gural souvenirs
These are woollen, fur and leather items of clothing, footwear, as well as cosy sheepskins. The fact is that the inhabitants of the mountainous regions of Poland have long been engaged in animal husbandry. They know exactly the secrets of dressing sheep skins and spinning wool.
Cheese
Do you think only Switzerland and Holland can bring you delicious cheese? Well, no! The same mountain dwellers (gurals) use a unique recipe to make a popular souvenir - Oscypek cheese. It is roasted on fire and served with cranberry jam. You can buy cheese not only in Zakopane, but also in large grocery shops in Poland. Another advantage of this tasty souvenir is that cheese keeps for quite a long time.
Sausages
If we're talking about food, here's another souvenir from Poland - sausage. The most famous, of course, is Krakow sausage! In addition to a bar of dry Kraków sausage, you should also bring smoked sausages (kabanosy) as a gift.
Souvenirs for children
You can bring a whistling bird to a child from Poland. This toy has been produced in Poland since the 14th century. In addition to whistles, kids can buy plush dragons - the symbol of Krakow. And from Wrocław you can bring figures of gnomes or a set for finding little men.
Dolls
For a collector, give a doll in Polish national costume. In souvenir shops you will find dolls made with high precision from ethnographic models.
