At Litera Polish language school, we teach not only speaking and understanding Polish, but also writing essays on a given topic. This skill is very important for students preparing for language exams. In the process of teaching, we have noticed that many students have difficulty proofreading their work. We have prepared five simple tips for successfully preparing a written assignment. Follow our instructions and your essay will be perfect.
First tip: Take a break
Give yourself time after you finish writing. Put the work aside and refocus. Sometimes your eyes get 'blurred' and it's important to take a break from the task. A day or more - This is ideal, but even a 30 minute break helps. You'll be amazed at how many words, ideas, and sentences you'll want to change.
Second tip: Read what you wrote out loud
Reading your work out loud, even if you're just mumbling it to yourself, works wonders. On the one hand, it helps you understand how easily your thoughts in the text will be perceived by readers. On the other hand, if you pronounce the words slowly and thoughtfully, then no mistake will hide from you.
Tip 3: Read your article backwards
Start editing your essay from the last sentence. Then read the second to last sentence, and so on. This method helps you find more grammatical errors. The logic of the narrative will not distract you from searching for errors.
Tip 4: Clean Slate
Take a piece of paper and cover all the text except the line you are reading. This method can help you focus on each line.
Tip 5: Pretend you are not the author of the essay
Read your article as a layperson, not as a writer. Looking at your work through the eyes of a reader will help you identify phrases or sentences that may be unclear.
These five simple ways to work with text will help you when writing essays, compositions, and even posts on the Internet.
