Mikołajki

Mikołajki

Remember how, as a child, you waited for gifts under the Christmas tree or pillow?

The last month of the year is a magical time when you can return to childhood and please yourself and your loved ones with cute gifts. But why on the night of December 5-6, and not on Christmas or New Year? The tradition of giving gifts at the beginning of December is called Mikołajki in honor of St. Nicholas, symbolizing his kindness and generosity. According to the legend about St. Nicholas, he was known for his acts of mercy and help to those in need, giving gifts to children.

In Poland, this night is special – it is then that Polish children eagerly await gifts from St. Nicholas, secretly left under their pillows.

This is a holiday tradition. Mikołajki, when everyone can feel like a child, believing in miracles and goodness. On this day, giving gifts is not just a custom, it is a way to show care and love for loved ones.
At our Litera school, we also celebrate this day with special trepidation. We combine learning Polish with immersion in the culture and traditions of Poland. Join us to celebrate Mikołajki together and expand your horizons!
