We continue sharing stories about life and business in Poland. Today we want to raise a topic that is relevant for every taxpayer. We are talking about the possibility of directing 1.5% of your tax to charity when filing your annual tax return. This can be done by choosing a specific organization.
The tax return (PIT) has a special field where you should enter the KRS number - a unique code for a public benefit organization. It is also possible to indicate what specific purpose the funds should be used for: treatment, assistance to children or support for animal shelters. If the recipient is not selected, the state distributes these funds independently.
The tradition of transferring part of the tax to charity has existed in Poland for a long time. Initially, it was 1%, but was later increased to 1.5%. In this case, the taxpayer does not pay more - he simply gets the opportunity to independently determine who will receive part of his mandatory tax.
For many charities, these funds make up a significant portion of their annual budget. This is especially important for smaller organizations that do not have access to large sources of funding and depend on private donations. Every year, foundations launch information campaigns reminding people to transfer their 1.5%. This money allows them to continue their activities and help those who really need it.
The choice is up to everyone. Some support medical organizations, others - animal shelters or educational projects. The main thing is not to miss the chance to personally influence who these funds will be sent to.
If 1.5% is written off from taxes anyway, why not decide for yourself who will really benefit from it?
