Mysteries of the Polish Mountain Peaks: Meeting with the Gorals

Did you know that the Polish Tatras are not only protected parks and crystal clear lakes, but also home to the Gorals (Górale)? These proud mountaineers have a unique culture and language.

The Gorals speak a special dialect called "góralski"

It is filled with melodious words describing their life among the majestic mountains.

It is interesting that their language has unique words that can only be heard here! For example, "jaga" means a mountain lake. The well-known Morskie Oko, a unique body of water in the gorge, has another name - "Morskaya Yaga". The local wind in the Tatras, which can be very strong and sudden, the Gorals call "halny"They respect and fear him because of his power and influence on the weather.

Word "baka" means a shepherd who looks after sheep and makes oscypek cheese in "back" - a cozy mountain hut.

Oscypek — it's not just cheese, it's art! Each piece is decorated with a unique pattern, making it a real work of art. This year, oscypek became the national cheese of Poland!

The Guralys are also famous for their costumes, which are bright and elegant.

Embroidery with the traditional "Parzenica" pattern decorates clothes and accessories, adding a piece of the Goral soul to them. And don't forget about "Kierpce" - traditional leather shoes decorated with hand embroidery.

But the most valuable thing in the culture of the Gorals is their incredible hospitality.

If you find yourself in the mountains, be sure to experience the warmth and cosiness of the highlander houses, try oscypek, bryndza, kwaśnica and other local delicacies, and listen to amazing stories.
