In the center of Wroclaw, wherever you look, you will find something interesting. And on Piłsudskiego Street, not far from the city center and Litera school, you can meet a curious crowd. Some of this crowd managed to cross Świdnicka Street, and some froze forever, wanting to continue their journey. The unique sculpture group is called "Crossing" and is dedicated to the victims of repression.
In the early 1980s, a political crisis was brewing in Poland. Opponents of the current government organized the Solidarity movement. They held various events and organized demonstrations. The current leaders of the country brutally suppressed any manifestation of them - many were arrested, and some were even shot! For this reason, ordinary people were afraid to act openly and went underground. The sculpture "Transition" is a symbol of this phenomenon. The author of the monument, Jerzy Kalina, gave the heroes of the sculptural group the features of his loved ones who suffered during the repressions.
Stop for a moment, this is the site of the most active popular demonstrations in 1981. Look at the faces of those seven people who came out of the ground. What distinguishes them from the other seven who are just preparing to cross over?
