If flooding occurs, follow these guidelines to keep yourself and others safe.
Be prepared to respond quickly:
- Follow information from local authorities and weather services.

- Collect important documents, extra water, medications, food, a flashlight, batteries, a charger and hygiene products.
- Make sure you know how to turn off the electricity, gas and water supplies.
- Try to lift valuables, furniture and equipment to elevated places.

During an emergency:
- Follow the instructions of the authorities! If an evacuation is announced, leave immediately.
- Avoid contact with water, as it may be contaminated with chemicals or conduct electricity. Be aware that even shallow running water can be dangerous.
- Move to upper floors or the roof if evacuation is not possible.
- If necessary, place a cloth or object in a window or in a visible place that will signal to rescuers that you need help.
REMEMBER THE COLORS FOR THE HELP SIGNAL:
⬜️ white flag/cloth - evacuation required
🟥 red flag/fabric - medical attention needed
🟦 blue flag/cloth - no food or water
When the danger has passed:
- Return home only with permission from the authorities.
- Be careful of possible sinkholes, damaged buildings and holes.
- Drink only safe, bottled water and stay up-to-date with water status news.
- Clean up all contaminated areas wearing protective clothing.
Help those in need, especially the elderly and those in need.
