When studying Polish, sooner or later the question arises: which exam to take to officially confirm your knowledge? There are two options - the international telc exam or the Polish state exam. Both options are recognized in Poland, but differ in goals and format.
What is different about telc?
This exam is often chosen by those who need to process documents faster and easier. It is easy to sign up for telc, there are enough centers, and certificates are issued quickly. The exam format itself is also considered more accessible: less grammar, more test tasks and practice of spoken Polish. This is why many call telc "closer to life."
What does the state exam give?
The state exam is more serious in preparation. It usually takes more time and is more difficult to pass. But it has one important advantage: it is a mandatory condition for obtaining Polish citizenship. If you plan to apply for citizenship in the coming years, there is no alternative to the state exam.
How to decide?
-
If the goal is an EU resident card, telc is most often recommended: it is simpler in format and faster to organize.
-
If the goal is citizenship, you need to pass a state exam.
Thus, the choice depends not so much on the language level, but on what documents require a certificate.
Where to prepare?
Litera Development and Education Center is a licensed examination center where you can not only take telc, but also prepare for any exam with experienced teachers. Classes are held in Wroclaw and online, there are free trial lessons. In addition, the school offers the services of a sworn translator from Polish, Ukrainian and Russian.
