On April 17, Catholics around the world celebrate Easter
This is the most joyful of Polish religious holidays. Many traditions and rituals of this day have been formed over decades. But not all of them are supported by the Catholic Church. For example, the bunny in the Polish Easter tradition is only a secular character. Most likely, it came to Poland from Germany, where the Easter bunny is very popular.
This hero appeared from German folk legends
Once upon a time, a poor German woman really wanted to please her children with a surprise for the holiday, but she had no money at all. So she decided to hide decorated eggs in her garden. When the children were searching the garden for gifts, a bunny ran by. The kids noticed the uninvited guest near the eggs and decided that it was he who brought them gifts.
The tradition took root and spread throughout the world.
In Poland, namely in Wroclaw, this custom is loved and awaited by all children. The Easter bunny brings colorful eggs, sweets and chocolate to children who have behaved well.
But despite such popularity, the Polish church does not recognize the bunny as a symbol of Easter. The official religious symbol of the Divine Resurrection in Poland is the lamb.
